Substation Control System (SCS) is a system that provides control, monitoring, measurement, event recording of the substation. The substation control could be conveniently executed by Bay Control Unit (BCU), Local PC or Remote PC, from the control point at Bay Level, Station Level, and Supervisory Level. The measurement and status of equipment of the substation could be conveniently monitored.

Substation Automation System (SAS) is a collection of hardware and software components to provide protection, control, automation, monitoring, measurement, event recording and communication capabilities as part of a comprehensive control and monitoring solution to electrical system. The SAS also automates some repetitive, tedious, and error-prone activities to increase the overall efficiency and productivity of the system.

Digital Substation – Moving into digitization era, substation protection, control, measurement, and automation are going digital. Binary status and analogue measured data are converted into digital data – reliably and seamlessly. This makes data easier to transmit and share between equipment and devices, IEDs and substations in real time. It improves the efficiency and response as the digital data could be better utilized and processed.

IEC61850 Standard –IEC61850 is the international standard for communication in substations. It manages the interoperability for advanced protection and control application by enabling the integration of all protection, control, measurement, and monitoring functions. It brings digital substation to higher level providing means for high-speed substation protection applications. The IEC61850 standard is accepted by most utilities including TNB as a modern protocol.
